faq’s chapter rhw

  • The 2009 collaboration between Todd Murphy, BOBO and Restoration Hardware (RHW) showcased unique designs using straw, which, while artistically innovative, encountered unexpected regulatory challenges related to the transportation of agricultural products. Despite the early success with about 200 pieces sold, these regulations led RHW to discontinue the project. This decision was a compliance measure with federal regulations and not a reflection on the artistic value or demand for the works.

  • After the cancellation, Todd and his partner at BOBO divided the remaining pieces. Todd chose to destroy over half of his share, gift some, and rework others for sale or donation. BOBO is believed to have sold or donated his portion at or below fair market value. It’s important to note that these were not marketed as original artworks. The 2009 RHW catalog listed them at $1,795.00 each. However, some of these reproductions have since appeared on the market at significantly inflated prices and with misrepresented provenance. Original pricing can be verified HERE and a close up of the price can be found HERE. Authenticity and the importance of Provenance information can be found at the Center for Art Law HERE .

  • This re-release serves a dual purpose: firstly, to honor Todd’s dedication to making art accessible to a wider audience, a passion that was at the heart of his artistic philosophy. Secondly, we aim to rectify the quality concerns that were a source of frustration for Todd in the original collaboration. By partnering with Laumont Editions in NYC, known for their expertise in producing archival quality works, we ensure that these re-released pieces meet the high standards Todd valued.
